Research trends in blockchain and crypto-assets

A study authored by our researchers, dedicated to the analysis of research trends in the fields of blockchain technology and crypto-assets, has been published in open access on the Elsevier publishing platform. The study analyzes more than 50,000 scientific publications from the years 2015–2025, and its findings provide a unique, data-driven picture of how blockchain research has evolved over time.

The paper entitled “Exploring Research Trends in Blockchain and Crypto-Assets Using Various Sources” employs natural language processing (NLP) techniques to identify and analyze the evolution of research topics over time. The study makes use of bibliographic data from the Scopus and OpenAlex databases. It covers more than 80,000 keywords and is based on advanced NLP methods applied to the analysis of article abstracts. The results help to identify which areas of blockchain research have gained the greatest prominence and which are still emerging, offering important implications for research strategy planning, technological investment, and innovation policy development.

The paper was presented at the KES 2025 conference. Authors of the study: Dr. Piotr Stolarski, Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski.
