The growing scale of mental health challenges, combined with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the emergence of large language models, inspired research into the potential role of AI chatbots in supporting mental health care. As part of the study, chatbots based on large language models were implemented in accordance with their developers’ guidelines, with the possibility of extending them with additional functionalities. They were then evaluated using a carefully designed set of research questions. The results were compared with other well-known studies in this field.

It is worth noting that the first author of the paper, Dominika Smoczyńska, is a graduate of the Poznań University of Economics and Business, where she actively collaborated with the Department of Information Systems during her studies.
