Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski Delivers Invited Talk at Arizona State University

At the invitation of Arizona State University, Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski delivered a talk entitled “Methods and Tools for Automatic Quality Assessment of Wikipedia Articles and Their Information Sources”. The talk focused on the challenges associated with the automatic assessment of information quality in multilingual Wikipedia.

Individual language editions of Wikipedia are developed independently, which means that articles on the same topic may differ in the scope and currency of their content, level of detail, and even the way the same facts are presented. This makes it particularly important to develop methods for automatically comparing content quality and identifying reliable information sources.

During the talk, Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski presented research findings as well as practical tools supporting Wikipedia quality assessment. One of these was WikiRank, a system for the automatic relative assessment of the quality and popularity of articles across different language editions of Wikipedia. Another tool presented was BestRef, which is designed to analyze and assess information sources cited in Wikipedia articles. The methods and tools being developed can support not only Wikipedia readers and editors, but also researchers working on information quality, multilingual knowledge resources, digital humanities, and the application of artificial intelligence to the analysis of large datasets.

The talk took place on September 11, 2026, and was hosted by the Multilingual AI Lab and the Digital Humanities Cluster at Arizona State University.
