The goal of the ASG (Adaptive Services Grid) project is to create a prototype of an open platform for adaptive discovery, creation, composition, and management of services. To achieve this objective, ASG addresses scientific and technological challenges by leveraging the expertise of leading European research units involved in software development, telecommunications technologies, and telematics.
ASG is a collection of sub-projects, including tools developed by small and medium-sized enterprises, integrated into a single open platform. Based on the semantic specification of services that clients wish to use, ASG detects appropriate services, composes them into complex processes, and, if necessary, generates software to create new application services on demand. Subsequently, these application services are delivered through the underlying computational GRID infrastructure.
In the proposed project, methods and concepts from software architecture, software development methodologies, web service composition, and workflow planning and coordination will be complemented with the latest research findings in domain engineering, software production, the Semantic Web, and negotiating agents. The project’s impact on Europe’s technological development is supported by strong industrial engagement in developing the platform, its implementation, and its use in the fields of telecommunications and telematics. ASG is significant for society as it helps reduce the gap in telecommunications, telematics, and IT enterprise development between EU member states and candidate countries.
