During the international conference “The Web Conference” (formerly – WWW conference), a forum bringing together researchers exploring all aspects of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects was held – Wiki Workshop 2022. As part of this event, the results of our department’s research in the area of reliability assessment of web sources information in Wikipedia on the COVID-19 pandemic in various months and in different language versions were presented.

Habilitation promotion at University of Potsdam
On 22 April 2022, Dr. habil. Krzysztof Węcel, prof. PUEB received his habilitation promotion at the University of Potsdam during the graduation ceremony at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. How to identify fake news on Wikipedia
On April 22-24, in the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów, the conference “Wikimedians Spring Meetup 2022” was held. The event consisted of lectures, training sessions, workshops, work on project issues for people editing Wikimedia projects (including Wikipedia, Wikidata and others). The conference was organized by the Polish public benefit organization “Wikimedia Polska”.
Piotr Kałużny received PhD with distinction
By the decision of the Office of Academic Advancement Board of the University of Economics in Poznań of January 14, 2022, our employee Piotr Kałużny was awarded a doctoral degree in the discipline of “economics and finance”. At the same time, the Office of Academic Advancement Board, supporting the proposal of the Doctoral Committee awarded the doctoral dissertation with distinction.
The DIS team starts the OpenFact project
On 2nd December 2021 our department started the OpenFact project. The objective of the project is to develop a tool for verifying the credibility of information sources in the Internet and for detecting fake news using Artificial Intelligence. The fourth edition of the scientific workshop BSCT (Blockchain and Smart Contract Technologies) was held on June 16, 2021. The event was held remotely as part of the international conference on Business Information Systems (BIS), and it was hosted by TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library in Hanover, Germany.

Piotr Kałużny – PhD student of the year at PUEB
During the XXI PUEB Victorie Gala 2021, the results of the competition for the best employees of the Poznań University of Economics and Business were announced. In this year’s edition, the award was also given to a PhD student of our department – Piotr Kałużny. The supervisor of the doctoral dissertation is prof. Quality assessment of Wikipedia and its sources
On December 16, 2020, during the Wikimedia Research Showcase, the results of scientific works conducted by members of the Department of Information Systems in the area of information quality assessment in multilingual Wikipedia were presented. In particular, the models of automatic evaluation of the reliability of sources in this popular encyclopedia were discussed.
PUEB Entrepreneurship Days
On December 2-3, 2020 as part of the 2nd edition of the PUEB Entrepreneurship Days, members of the Department of Information Systems, MSc.
