During the 28th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems (KES 2024), Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski presented a paper entitled “Exploring the Challenges and Potential of Generative AI: Insights from an Empirical Study” and a paper entitled “Supporting fact-checking process with IT tools”. The conference was held on September 11-13, 2024 in hybrid mode.

In 2024, scientists from the Department of Information Systems participated for the second time in the CheckThat! competition, part of the international CLEF conference, focused on identifying check-worthy texts. Leveraging transformer-based language models and cross-linguistic transfer learning techniques, the team secured two second-place rankings for English and Arabic submissions.
Scientists from the Department of Information Systems took part in an international competition for the analysis of multi-author writing style – PAN 2024. PAN is a series of scientific events related to stylometric analysis and forensic linguistics, organized during the CLEF 2024 conference. The competition task was to detect places where the author changes in a text written by several authors.
The National Center for Research and Development has completed the evaluation of the results of the second phase of the INFOSTRATEG program. The evaluation included the results achieved by three competing teams whose task is to develop solutions for detecting fake news using artificial intelligence.
Students of our specialization in Informatics and Econometrics – Mikołaj Tym and Jakub Żerebecki (2nd degree, 1st year, speciality: Information Systems for Business and Administration) – took part in the competition “The Web Intelligence – Deduplication Challenge” organized by Eurostat between December 2022 and April 2023 year. The task performed concerned the field of Data Science and natural language processing.
The article by employees of our Department was published in the journal “Networks and Spatial Economics” by Springer. The work analyzes the impact of international crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, on maritime traffic and their consequences for the global and local economy.
The results of scientific research of employees of our Department were published in the journal “Procedia Computer Science” by Elsevier on the ScienceDirect website. As part of the work, hundreds of millions of references in Wikipedia articles from various language versions were analyzed to identify scientific sources of information. The 10th International Scientific Conference “Knowledge and Information Technologies in Creating Entrepreneurship” and the 5th Congress of Business Informatics were held on October 5-6, 2023. During the Didactic Conference at the Poznań University of Economics and Business, employees of the Department of Information Systems presented research results on the possibilities and limitations of generating texts using tools based on generative artificial intelligence, analyzing both the advantages and potential threats. The research was conducted based on the analysis of texts generated by ChatGPT as part of student essays.
