On April 22-24, in the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów, the conference “Wikimedians Spring Meetup 2022” was held. The event consisted of lectures, training sessions, workshops, work on project issues for people editing Wikimedia projects (including Wikipedia, Wikidata and others). The conference was organized by the Polish public benefit organization “Wikimedia Polska”.
On 2nd December 2021 our department started the OpenFact project. The objective of the project is to develop a tool for verifying the credibility of information sources in the Internet and for detecting fake news using Artificial Intelligence. The fourth edition of the scientific workshop QOD (Quality of Open Data) was conducted on June 14, 2021 in conjunction with the BIS 2021 conference. The event was hosted by TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library in Hanover, Germany.
On December 16, 2020, during the Wikimedia Research Showcase, the results of scientific works conducted by members of the Department of Information Systems in the area of information quality assessment in multilingual Wikipedia were presented. In particular, the models of automatic evaluation of the reliability of sources in this popular encyclopedia were discussed.
The goal of the QOD workshop is to bring together different communities working on quality in Wikipedia, DBpedia, Wikidata, OpenStreetMap, Wikimapia and other open knowledge bases and data sources. An international Wikimania conference was held in Stockholm, Sweden, from 14-18 August, with about 800 participants. During the conference, Dr. Włodzimierz Lewoniewski delivered a research “Multilingual Ranking of Wikipedia Articles with Quality and Popularity Assessment“.
